After you've used all your chewing gums, take the worthless items out of the closet and go visit the Hermit. And don't forget to buy your hermit permit from the general store! Kingdom of Loathing Hardcore Ascension Guide for Online/Browser by ASchultz. Kingdom of Loathing Hardcore Ascension Guide version 0. Andrew Schultz schultz. Hardcore (HC) is a good deal tougher than Softcore (SC.) It forces you to do without the 2. You can't buy from the mall, either, and you can't use any Items of the Month you buy in- run. However, you can still build up skills wonderfully, and you get slightly nicer prizes for winning. Plus, you get to feel hardcore. It's a nice change of pace. Fewer moves per day, but still a new challenge. And you get double the perming power. Plus, cool tattoos. So depending on how much time you can devote to the game, HC may be more efficient than SC. Kingdom of Loathing is a free-to-play browser-based game full of puns and pop culture references. You still have a day to get. KoL-Like games without a timer? I first discovered the stick person MMORPG Kingdom of Loathing a million years ago when I was still at school. In 2003, I’d never seen anything like it and reveled. Kingdom of Loathing (abbreviated KoL) is a browser-based multiplayer role-playing game designed and operated by. Puzzle-solving is an important part of the. Games similar to Kingdom of Loathing. Not relevant to my request. It also can help you feel you really understand the game. At some point I felt I was just throwing Iot. Ms at the game, and trying HC opened up a lot of things I never knew about. I was even able to apply that to SC! With the Valhalla revamp in '1. It wasn't even funny. Was it really that long ago? Yes it was,) it's now possible to start with a few class skills before you ever try Hardcore, beyond just olfaction, which is still useful. The right ones can cut daycount. Hardcore can save real- life time and quite possibly be more efficient for building skills than Softcore. The downside is that it may not be as profitable, but the bright side is, it requires less of an investment to start. And you can still summon Mr. Stuff when you ascend. Plus Ko. LMafia can help you play it (relatively) safe if you need to. Ko. Lmafia. It helps you determine safe moxie, so you can see your chances of hitting various enemies. I would seriously recommend a softcore run or two to get to learn Ko. LMafia before trying a HC run. It's not about jumping right into hardcore but rather about getting a few skills which will make HC much smoother. The Valhalla revamp in 2. HC is no longer a super chore. Detailed speed running, in- depth turn cutting, and the debate over steel organ day 1 vs. Just spleen. You need a runaway familiar and a bunch of other stuff not to get totally stuck. It's great for if you are short on real life time, but the rewards aren't worth it except for bragging. It's even slower than bad moon, of which- -more below. There are some skills you will want to get and some astral items worth unlocking. In particular, the astral mask for pickpocketing 3. The +item can't be beat. So I think a few ascensions can help you unlock things. The astral shirt is nice, but really, you will want a run where you can win with a +2. You should always take an astral item. While you might get away with karma- hoarding in softcore, you need either stat gains or boosts to move along in HC. First, never do a challenge path run during Feast of Boris without an extremely good reason. You won't get the 1. That's a lot. In no- path, you also get lots of nice free food you don't have to burn turns to make. It's almost as good as Hell Ramen. I really recommend, though, going in- run for Fo. B if you want to save a bit of meat/spells/turns on food and the like and aren't trying for super daycount. I'd guess day 2 would be best for that, softcore. You'll want to stretch your turns out as far as possible. It's up to you if you want to play a straight- up ascension, a BIG (which may feel like cheating, but YMMV) or a Boris ascension (which can also feel a bit cheaty, but boy is it fun to beat up monsters.) The others are mainly worth it to gain a bit of extra karma. You may have already run these paths in Softcore to get skills quickly, and if you haven't, I think they will go quicker in Softcore. For BIG, you lose an instant karma, but you probably save at least a day. So if you have an ascension loop of, say, 1. BIG would cut that down, it's definitely worth it. BIG is also nice for a possible telescope/level 3. You can still get a tattoo for either, so if you like tattoos, do that. They will cost a good deal of daycount. But there a lot more fun paths to try. I think BIG is an excellent challenge path for HC, because you still get the tattoo, but you don't have a lot of annoying leveling up. And you can start where you please, skipping ahead to areas that will give meat or turngen. The downside of not leveling up a lot is.. Monsters all have 1. ML higher than in non- BIG, which becomes a pain near the end. The main thing to note is that % buffs will see you through. BIG starts off very easily as Moxie. You're at 2. 00, and the enemies are at 1. Disco Fever and Moxious Madrigal/Stevedave help boost your moxie % until the NS, who doesn't quite have +1. ML. She would be very nasty with it. Also, Big really takes a lot of the sting out of hardcore Myst ascensions. You may need to learn to use spells a bit, but I think you will be able to hang. You will be able to use the very best spells, so you can blast the Naughty Sorceress. MMJ is a real gift, too, since it now gives 2. MP per 1. 00 meat spent right away. Saucerors can buy Spiciness relatively early so even weak spells do damage. They can also create a lot of potions with lemons or tomatoes to play as moxie once you make a chef- in- the- box- -you can't do so for all your turns, but you should be able to power up for the tough monsters. Pastamancers can probably make a spell staff and can also buy Springy Fusilli, which is eventually worth a perm to help in the Alcove and Twin Peak and generally for pickpocketing as moxie. Even a weak chefstave will regenerate HP and do extra damage. Entangling Noodles is also a good staple spell. You may be tempted to chain PM runs as well and hold off perming EN, just buying it cheap early on, perming another skill in its place. I really recommend chaining a mainstat (myst or muscle) so you can figure how to use spells or eventually get to the point where you can one- hit enemies. I can't really say what is the best Astral item to get. For the first time as muscle, you definitely want to use the astral trousers/mace, which will bludgeon your opponents. For myst, you may be able to get away with a shirt or (because +item can't be beat) a mask later. Big is also quite good for Muscle ascensions. The Blood of the Wereseal will work well against tougher monsters, and it will also get additional hit points. You probably want to have Cocoon permed, too. So I recommend Big for those, the first time through. You will probably get hit a bit more at first, but you won't suffer disasters, and you'll learn to use the various combat skills. You can also get three full heals on day 1 with Medicinal Herb's Medicinal Herbs. The next few days, you may or may not be able to, or want to, use Pulverize for spleen, turns and boost. But the herbs are a definite option as Muscle. You may need to. With BIG, you can buy lots of skills early. Maybe not the most expensive class ones, but you can definitely tear up the usual quest places that give money, like the bat hole etc., and then buy more. The passive +meat and +item ones should always be bought up ASAP, and you can buy the others as enemies get tougher. If you are willing to brave a myst run early as BIG, then you do not need that class's respective skills right away. Though it is nice to have Leash, which is a bit expensive- -Cocoon won't be necessary early especially if you have the astral mask. Basically, you can just generate spleen and astral booze turns, then start making money to buy the skills. I also like the Boris challenge path as a way to get through. Running in a Boris challenge path, especially if you have a few Boris runs under your belt, can be rather easy. And it will get you two points for the next Boris run you try, and you still get two softcore perms/perm upgrades. Plus you get the totally useless but terribly amusing Request Sandwich skill- -a P. B. L. T.- -if you do the equivalent of 1. HC = 2 SC.) It's not much good as food, but it sure is fun. And you can choose your class after you win. So you can avoid a class you don't like, like a myst class, and perm something. You may even learn to play as muscle and use the fighting tree. But for starters as Boris, you probably want to have a few softcore runs in beforehand so that you can hit Legendary Appetite on move 1 (I would go Feasting, Shouting, Fighting) and Gourmand pretty quickly. But softcore runs as Boris are pretty fun and fast and a nice change of pace, even before you get to hardcore. Then when you switch to hardcore, those skills pile up. In general, each new Boris skill is more powerful than a corresponding softcore skill, so he can be quite fun to play as. Having 2. 0 fullness is also handy in several scenarios as epic food is often a bit cheaper than epic booze, and eating S'Mores is great in extended aftercore. Having 3. 0 food after getting several skills is also very handy, as you can eat up before breaking the prism. Once you do, your fullness drops to 2. So you get 1. 0 free units of food if you remember. Boris also gets to more or less skip certain quest preparations or tough requirements. For instance, Boris gets automatic elemental resistance with the feasting tree, so you can hit up the bat hole. Playing as Boris also helps you prepare for muscle classes. And once you get the 9th feasting skill (+5. HP bonus. In fact, if you start off with 7 skills (e. You probably want the DB skill Kung Fu Hustler from The Autobiography Of Dynamite Superman Jones HC permed first, though. It helps a lot to be able to fight empty- handed. Master of the Surprising Fist is worth an HC perm, too. You can play with pretty much any class, since you'll largely be using low- MP skills like Drunken Baby Style, and the early fights to get the first few skills shouldn't be bad. I would recommend picking up the trophies in softcore, first, though, if you're into trophies. Remember to convert $1 million in meat to dense meat stacks. The 5. 00. 0 damage with Salamanderenity trophy is not hard. Fist runs automatically go twelve moves quicker if you perm the Fist skill. However, since you need to perm the Fist skill in order to make HC Fist that much easier, it may not be worth it.
